TexasGamesCon wrap-up part 2

This will be the wrap-up for the remainder of texasGamesCon this past weekend. It's going to be a bunch of battle reports, so it will be a long post with as much detail as i remember from the weekend. My previous post was a wrap-up of the Iron Guantlet on Friday. On Saturday I played in the "Masters" event (open masters format, 50 points 3 lists). then on Sunday i played in the doubles tournament. The team event was fun but for battle reports I'm not going to spend much time on that.

For the masters event i took my current favorite 3-list setup of Zaal, Makeda3 and Mordikaar. I like how the three of them work together, and they are my favorite 3 casters just for the fun factor. they happen to also be pretty strong.

here are my lists:

TexasGamescon wrap-up part 1

This last weekend was Texas Games Con (previously WarGamesCon, previously BOLScon), which is always one of the events i look forward to during the year. I played in it back in my 40K days and have been doing the Warmachine side for the last 3 years. it's gotten bigger each year, and this year the warmachine side had as many players as the 40K tournament! All in all the weekend was amazing, one of the most fun 'cons I've been to.

I wanted to write up a set of battle reports from my weekend. I know some people love them and some people don't, but I'm one of those guys who will read any battle reports i can find, so hopefully others will enjoy seeing a few from me.

Lesser Warlock Zaadesh

Now that the kickstarter lesser warcasters are out and starting to see some table time (at least 3 of them were on the table during a 12 person local tourney last weekend), we've got the rules for the new lesser warlocks coming out in the next book. I'm not going to be talking about all three of them, though they all seem at least interesting. The one I'm going to talk about is obviously the Skorne lesser, Tyrant Zaadesh.

Compared to the other two he seems really straight-forward. nothing real crazy in his abilities or spells. But also no limitations like the others (including the beast mistress). all of them have to take lights (or lessers for legion), where Zaadesh has no such restrictions. you could give him character heavies if you wanted to. I don't think I want to, but the option is there.

Using the Despoiler

It's been a long time in coming, but we're finally seeing the last few models from Gargantuans on the tables. Today we'll look at Skorne's latest model, the Despoiler.

The Despoiler was one of the big surprises in Gargantuans. For many releases, we pretty much know what all is in a book before the book hits the shelves, but for Gargantuans PP did a good job of keeping a few nice pieces hidden until the book made its way to stores. Adding to the surprise, Despoiler was the only non-warlock character in the entire book. The biggest surprise with Despoiler, in my opinion, is how much it got people talking about Mordikaar.

Bring on 2014!

the holidays are over and the new years is ramping up! Time to jump back into blogging after not really doing much at all with the blog or warmachine in the past couple months. I have finally hit 100 posts on this blog! I couldn't really think of anything cool to do for the 100th post that would be different or exciting, so instead I'm just going to look at how things went last year and what's coming up in 2014.

For those that don't know, 2014 is going to be a big year for my wife and I. This fall we will be packing our bags and leaving the great USA and moving overseas for an indefinite amount of time. That means this year is likely going to be the last year in quite some time that I will be playing Warmachine face-to-face or on a regular basis. I am going to be figuring out Vassal in the next few months and will keep playing with friends back home via the internet, but my tournament hopping days may be over. So that means this year is going to be something of a final lap through the great Texas 'cons that I've enjoyed over the last few years.
